Establishing a leader takes time and intentional effort.

How are you preparing those in your ministry for leadership? What is your plan for their development?

Establishing a leader in your ministry is not something that happens all at once in one moment.

You must be willing to walk the long road if you want a leader to succeed in succession.

Regardless of the size of your ministry or the scale of your operations, leadership is crucial to advancing the mission of your ministry.

It takes time and intentional effort to establish a leader in every context. You need to carefully plan and prepare for steady, stable leadership. Remember, leadership matters immensely in your ministry. It is the key determinant to the health of your ministry. Regardless of the size of your ministry or the scale of your operations, leadership is crucial to advancing the mission of your ministry.

You need to also consider that leaders cannot assume an appointment and be expected to fully function in their role right away. Typically, it takes years for a leader to acclimate to their role (even when they are familiar the functions of their role and its context).

The role of a leader is remarkably different from any other in your ministry.

Its demands are unusual and unique. Strong, capable leadership requires a diverse set of skills, abilities, and aptitudes, and the development of a leader in your context will not happen instantaneously. This will be a gradual process. It will be the product of multiple influences working together. Over time these influences have the potential to shape a leader profoundly.

It typically takes years for a leader to acclimate to their role (even when they are familiar the functions of their role and its context).

Having said that, please keep in mind that this process cannot be constrained to a prescribed development plan. It must be free to flex to the needs of the individual.

Does your process point to a commitment to walk the long road of leadership development?
